Why is so important to know the different interior design styles? Easy! To improve your communication with your client. Or even yourself as a client, you want to communicate clearly to your interior designer what style you are aiming for.
That's why we decided to start this find your style series; starting with Industrial design.
A little bit of background to understand better this popular style, Industrial style was born in the 50’s in America, when artists started to move from the centre of major cities to the outskirts. Looking for open and luminous spaces, they started to turn factories and warehouses into homes. That’s the reason why the main features of this style are open floor plans, high ceilings and large metal frame window
The architectural features from this styles are the next ones:
Open floor plans
Open staircases
High ceilings
Large metal frame windows
Salvaged materials
Columns
Concrete
Brick walls
Exposed ductwork and pipe

Some other key elements to pull off the look are:
Neutral base color palette/ Shades of grey
Add accent color through furniture and artwork, tapware, textiles and rugs.
Between your materials include any of the following elements: wood timber, leather, concrete, bricks*,weathered metal, metal accents (stainless steel, galvanized aluminum, iron).

One last hack from Industrial style is that it can be easily led towards a more masculine outcome in comparison with other styles. Go for black, charcoal grey and deep blue painted walls to achieve the look. Regarding furniture, choose heavier looking furniture, a great option would be a classic Chesterfield sofa.
